Using Your Active Channel and Push-to-Talk on the Mobile App
The weavix Mobile App gives you the ability to send push to talk (PTT) messages quickly and efficiently without needing to have the app open. As long as you are logged in to the weavix Mobile App, you can communicate from any screen on your phone using your designated Active Channel. This guide walks you through what an Active Channel is, how to set one up, how to use PTT without navigating into the app, and how to manage how you receive messages from your channels.
What Is an Active Channel?
Your Active Channel is a designated channel that you preset for quick PTT access from anywhere on your phone. Once it is set, it remains your Active Channel until you choose to replace it with another, no need to navigate back into the app to check which channel you're on before sending.
Pro Tip!
Setting an Active Channel does not mean you will only hear that channel. To stop receiving audio from specific channels, you will still need to mute those channels individually. For more information on muting channels, see Muting a Channel on the Mobile App.
Setting Your Active Channel
Open the weavix Mobile App and navigate to your Radio Screen.
Locate the channel you want to designate as your Active Channel.
Swipe left on that channel to reveal the action icons.
Tap the checkmark icon on the far right to set it as your Active Channel.
Once selected, your Active Channel will be reflected at the top of your screen.
Sending a PTT Message From Outside the App
Once your Active Channel is set, and you are logged in to your weavix Mobile App, you can send PTT messages from any screen on your phone using the banner that appears at the top of your display.
From any screen on your phone, look for the small banner at the top featuring a blue weavix icon.
Tap the blue icon to expand the banner. You will see the name of your designated Active Channel displayed.
Press and hold the Talk button to send your PTT message to that channel
Pro Tip!
If you have an iPhone with an Action Button, you can configure it to send a PTT message to your Active Channel with a single press, no banner interaction needed. See the Use the iPhone Action Button to Send Messages article to set it up!
Receiving PTT Messages From the Banner
By default, the PTT banner is set to your Active Channel. However, if a message comes through from another unmuted channel, that channel will temporarily take over the banner for 20 seconds, allowing you to respond seamlessly without switching channels. Once the 20 second window expires, the banner automatically returns to your designated Active Channel.
Additional Banner Options
If you tap the banner at the top of your screen to expand it, and then tap it again, a quick action screen will appear with the following options:
Leave
Closes the banner and temporarily removes the PTT option from your notification area. The banner will reappear the next time you open the weavix app. Note: this does not remove you from the channel.
View in weavix
Opens the weavix Mobile App and takes you directly to your Radio list.
Managing How You Receive Channel Messages
At the top of your Radio list in the weavix Mobile App, you will see a Notification Mode icon. Tapping this icon gives you two options for how you receive messages across all your channels:
Scan All Channels
All channel audio plays live on your device, similar to how a Walt Smart Radio operates. You will hear messages from all channels in real time unless you have individually muted them.
Chat Mode
All channel audio is muted on your device; however, you will still receive push notifications as messages come through, displayed in a chat style format. You can still send PTT audio messages to others even while in Chat Mode.
Pro Tip!
Chat Mode is a great option when you need to stay in the loop without live audio interruptions, such as during a meeting or in a noise sensitive environment.
