Understanding Alert Types
All Mass Alerts are classified by severity to help recipients respond appropriately:
Informational: General, non-emergency, but necessary information
- walt: Dings and vibrates
- Mobile App: Sends a push notification
- Examples:
-
- "The Road to Gate B is Closed."
- "Don't forget Safety training at 1 pm today."
-
Warning: Impending dangers
- walt: Sounds the alarm and reads the alert in an elevated voice
- Mobile App: Rings like an incoming phone call and plays the alert message in an elevated voice
- Note: Alert volume is based on ringer volume
- Example: "There's lightning in the area, be aware.
Danger: Immediate dangers
- walt: Sounds alarm and reads alert in panicked voice
- Mobile App: Rings like an incoming phone call and plays an alert message in a panicked voice
- Note: Alert volume is based off ringer volume
- Example: "Fire in the facility, evacuate now."
Below are examples of mass alerts on walts and the mobile app.
Pro Tip! You must configure Alert Types in the console before sending any Mass Alerts.
How to Send a Mass Alert
Reminder! Mass Alerts are site-specific. If you need to send the same alert across multiple sites, you must send it individually under each site in the system.
Navigate to Mass Alerts:
Click on Mass Alerts from the menu on the left.
Select New Alert to begin.
Choose the Alert Type:
Use the dropdown to select the appropriate Alert Type.
Pro Tip! The alerts are color-coded depending on the level you assigned, making it easy to distinguish between informational, warning, and danger.
Select Recipients:
Choose your intended audience:
- People currently in the facility (send this alert to users shown inside the perimeter geofence)
- Company (ie, send an alert only to contractors)
- Crafts (only send the alert to people who are part of a specific craft)
- Geofences (send alert to users who are inside a specific geofence)
Compose Your Message
Type the alert message in the text field.
Optionally, add a PIN to designate a specific site location. This is for historical purposes and will not be sent to users.
- For example, if there was an alert sent out letting users know there is a fire, you can add a PIN on the map to show where the fire occurred for your records.
Send the Alert
Click the blue Send Alert button.
A banner will confirm how many people received the alert.
Click Show People to see the detailed recipient list.
How to Acknowledge an Alert
On the Walt Smart Radio
When you receive an alert on your Walt Smart Radio, the screen will display the message along with a green checkmark.
To acknowledge the alert:
- Tap the green checkmark.
- This action will stop any vibration or alarm that may have sounded.
- This acknowledgment process is the same for all alert types.
On the Mobile App
Informational Alerts:
- A push notification will be sent to the mobile app.
- A red badge will appear in the upper-right corner of your mobile app, indicating an unread alert.
- Tap the bell icon to open your notification history.
- You must tap into the specific alert for it to be marked as acknowledged in the console.
Pro Tip! The red dot indicates this alert has not been acknowledged. Be sure to click into the specific alert for it to count as read.
Warning or Danger Alerts:
- These alerts will trigger a phone call through the app, with the alert type clearly displayed.
- To acknowledge the alert, answer the call just like a regular phone call.
- This confirms receipt and ensures it is properly tracked.
Reviewing Sent Alerts
Once your alert is sent, you can monitor its status in real time.
- Sent- Who and how many people the alert was sent to
- Received- Who received the alert on their device
- Acknowledged- Who confirmed seeing the alert
Note that any "received" users remaining may not be logged into the Walt Smart Radio or may be a mobile app user who did not answer the phone call.
Past alerts are accessible from the Mass Alerts panel and can be filtered by Alert Type and Severity using the blue, yellow, and red icons on the upper right-hand side of your map or the filters highlighted below.
Pro Tip! This feature is especially helpful for safety audits and incident tracking.
Mass Alerts are a critical part of your communication toolkit, enabling fast and effective messaging during both routine and emergency situations. By classifying alerts, targeting specific recipients, and tracking acknowledgment, you ensure that your workforce stays safe, informed, and prepared.
