A site survey is an important step to ensure your weavix deployment runs smoothly and efficiently. It helps us understand your space better, figure out any potential challenges, and plan the best approach for optimal connectivity. Think of it as laying the foundation for a solid network – all while giving you peace of mind. Let’s break it down with this easy-to-follow guide to complete your site survey like a pro!
During the survey, your walts will gather important data by recording the signal strength from both Wi-Fi and cellular networks. As you go through the site, you’ll mark each spot on a map where you take a recording. This grid-like pattern helps us understand the network quality across your entire space, and identify any weak spots that need a little love. The goal? To make sure everything is running at full speed when you’re using your walts!
Step 1: Prepare the Site
Before diving into the survey, make sure you’ve got a 2D image of your site in your Console. It’ll help you plan your survey and navigate more efficiently. Having a map on hand is a total game-changer!
Pro Tip! If you’re using Wi-Fi, double-check that the correct Wi-Fi network is added to your site before starting the survey.
Step 2: Check User Permissions
Make sure the person conducting the site survey has the right permissions in the Console. To verify:
- Go to the relevant permission group in the Console.
- Navigate to the Configuration tab.
- Ensure that the Site Survey | Edit permission is enabled.
Once that’s done, you’re good to go!
Preparing for the Survey: Get Your Tools in Shape
walt Devices:
We recommend connecting 3 walts to your site survey for optimal data collection.
Mobile Device Requirements:
Your mobile device needs to have location services and Bluetooth enabled to work properly with the weavix app. Make sure both are switched on before you start the survey!
Where Should You Wear the Walt?
For maximum effectiveness, wear your walts like this:
- One on your chest at shoulder height.
- One on your hip.
- One on your belt loop in the back.
Step 3: Plan Your Survey
Take readings every 100 feet to gather detailed, accurate data. Depending on the size of your site, this could take 45 minutes or more.
Pro Tip! It is best to walk your site in a grid like pattern. Also, make sure you are taking at least one reaching in each room!
Slow and Steady!
The more thorough you are, the better the results. Rushing through the survey could result in missing critical data, so take your time.
Planning Recommendations:
- Every 100 feet is a good starting point, but if you want more precise data, go ahead and do 50 feet.
- Don’t worry, if you need to conduct another survey later to improve accuracy. You can always redo the entire survey or a specific area.
Network Changes:
If your network changes (e.g., new Wi-Fi network name), you’ll need to run another survey to keep the data fresh. If you need to delete an old survey, just reach out to us!
Multi-floor Buildings?
- Upload a 2D image for each floor in your Console.
- Survey each floor separately, starting and stopping the survey on each one.
Pro Tip! For outdoor sites, the survey won’t improve location accuracy unless you have outdoor Wi-Fi infrastructure in place.
Step 4: Conduct the Survey - Follow Along with Our Guide:
Want to make sure you're doing everything correctly? Watch our step-by-step video guide on how to conduct a Site Survey here. Once you’re all set, walk through your site with your walts and mobile device running the weavix app.
Pro Tip! Remember to take readings every 100 feet, and be sure to cover the entire site for the best results.
Step 5: Submit the Survey Results
Once you’ve finished your survey, let your Customer Success Rep or Implementation & Training Manager know that you’re done. They’ll work with the team to review your data and provide you with a map that shows the network coverage results.
Review Your Results
For Network results
After the weavix team reviews your site survey, you will receive confirmation from your Customer Support Representative or Implementation and Training Manager. This update will include information about your network results.
Pro Tip! If needed, you may be asked to conduct another walk-through of your site to ensure optimal results.
For location results
Pick a few users and verify their location accuracy. If everything looks great, you don’t need to do anything more! However, if you want even more precise accuracy, consider retaking the survey or doing a more frequent “fingerprinting” survey.
Conclusion:
By following these steps, your site survey should go off without a hitch, giving you accurate results and a stronger network connection. If you run into any issues or have questions along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at help@weavix.com. We’re here to help!
